John&Mary is an awesome folk duo led by John Lombardo and Mary Ramsey . Their music is overwhelming .While some of their songs are described as pastoral and haunting , others, like all precious folk rock gems must be, are rocking - but all exhibit an outstanding tapestry made out of Mary's sweet voice and viola and John' six string and twelve string guitar ringing work. Great storytellers, they write the music and the lyrics of most of their album songs.

John Lombardo was a founding guitarist and songwriter of 10,000 Maniacs in 1981 but left the band and went to Buffalo-NY after the breakthrough of the 1985 album, "The Wishing Chair " . Mary Ramsey is a violinist and violist by training and founded a classical trio called "The Lexington String Trio" while still a student at the University of Buffalo. They met when Mary was performing with her classical trio . The chemistry was right as the two combined their musical backgrounds and it wasn't long before they gave up their musical projects to work as a duo, becoming one of Buffalo's most popular acts. Since both are fond of English folk music , they also cover old traditional songs and adapt ancient poetry to music.

Touring with 10,000 Maniacs as the opening act in 1990, and performing and composing extensively since then, they released two great albums through Rykodisk , "Victory Gardens" (1991) and " The Weedkiller's Daughter" (1993). Mary, due to her instrumental skills was also invited to perform or arrange the studio albums of Ani Di Franco, Billy Brag , GooGooDolls, 10,000 Maniacs etc. Although John&Mary were touring with the members of 10,000 Maniacs after Natalie Merchant's departure in 1983 , they officially joined 10,000 Maniacs in 1995. Since then , 10,000 Maniacs (with John and Mary on the fold ) released two albums , "Love Among The Ruins" in 1997 and "The Earth Pressed Flat" in 1999 and was always on tour to promote them. John&Mary albums are off catalogue now on Ryko and sometimes they are available at ( hint hint ) Ebay (search for john and mary) and Second Spin .

When they started the recording sessions of 10,000 Maniacs new album "Love Among The Ruins" , John and Mary held a goodbye concert on december 1996 , but every now and then, when 10,000 Maniacs was resting from the tours, they're back on the road to the delight of their fans . On August 22, 1998 , John and Mary held a concert in Jamestown, NY.

After 10,000 Maniacs lead guitar Rob Buck died in December 19th , 2000 , 10,000 Maniacs went on a break, Steve and Dennis set up a new band called Mighty Wallop and Jerry Augustyniak went to a band called Only Humen. In 2001 , John and Mary decided to went back on the road in a lot of gigs, performing from march to july, opened their own website, www.johnandmary.net and started working on a new album, ansiously waited by the fans for a year.
Finally, on 12/09/2002, John&Mary's 12 tracks new cd produced by John&Mary and Armand John Petri , "The Pinwheel Galaxy" was officially released . In december , John&Mary started to promote it with a 10 dates tour.

After the winter began to lose its strength , John&Mary started a new set of gigs on April 2003, and lately signed to Mi5 Recordings for the distribution of The Pinwheel Galaxy cd as well as future projects. Mary Ramsey also signed to Mi5 Recordings UK .
Mi5 Recordings was founded by Ted Mason, formerly guitarist/producer/co-song-writer of the band Modern English and currently of the band The Blue Mockingbirds.
On April 16th 2003 , John and Mary, backed by the Blue Mockingbirds, performed at The Volvo For Life Awards at Times Square Good Morning America Studios.
On May 17th 2003 , J&M participated in the Mi5 Recordings/Vines one year anniversary/Graduation party in Oneonta/SUNY College in the Catskills. VH-1 filmed the event for broadcast in a few months. The show filled the street on a perfect day, and then filtered into Vines for an acoustic jam through the night.
